Room 2’s Dreams For a Better World

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had a dream for a better world. In his dream, we live in a world where people are not judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character; a world where all people are created equally and work together in the spirit of brotherhood.

In class, we reflected on changes that we would like to see in the world. Here are the kid’s dreams for a better world.

If I were born a wizard, with my magic wand I would wave it and everyone would be able to do anything they wanted except bad stuff – like they could be able to build a rocket ship in one second and go to Mars.


By Alex
I would make the world a spaghetti world. There is spaghetti everywhere. Spaghetti covers the world and you could eat it anywhere you go. Also, there is more Legos in the spaghetti.

I would tell off the judges. “Stop doing that. It doesn’t matter what their skin color is. Would you like it if they did that to you?” I would put the mean people.

I would make people happy. I would see people treat other people with compassion. They will be so happy.

There is more caring in the world. People would be nice to each other and help each other. People would help wash the dishes and do the laundry. I would take all the guns away and throw them in the garbage.

Everyone could go to Tahoe. It is beautiful there. Everyone should be able to go somewhere beautiful.

Everyone plays together. Everyone has a friend, and everyone has a mom and dad to play with.

I would like a laser. I would make houses for people who don’t have a house.

All people make friends. They play with each other.


Hannah
My dream is no more poor people. All people have money to buy whatever they want. Also, everyone has a job.


Jeffrey
I would get to drive racecars. Also, there would be enough money for everyone, so people could buy food and cars to drive so they could go places.
Kenny
Everyone in the world has a bike, or a scooter. It’s good for people to ride it so they don’t make the air dirty.


Kevin
I would help people.


Kyle
Everybody makes funny jokes so that everyone gets to laugh and be happy.


Nathan
There is enough food for everyone, and everyone goes to a good school.


Sarai
We all love each other. There are more flowers and no more wars.


Sasha
Everyone treats other people nicely. They share. They go to school together. They learn how to be a good friend.


Tori
Everyone in the world is a best friend. There’s no fighting and everyone plays.




Vasuda
I want to tell the whole world to treat people nicely. Everyone would get along and be friends. It doesn’t matter what color you are.


Walfredo
There are playgrounds for all the kids in the world, and schools, too. And, everyone has a new name. If they have a new name they could make it a super hero name. Then, everyone saves the world.

For this year’s Christmas, I am going to make a snowman at home. At nighttime, I want to sleep with the snowman. On Christmas day, everyone in my family will open their presents. Then, I will kiss my mom, my dad, and my sister. The snowman will melt on the floor. I will clean it up. Then, I hug my family and go to bed. I miss the snowman, and I hope to see him next year!

My friends and I are going to Lake Tahoe for Christmas. We are going to ski on the slopes. My friends and I are taking ski lessons. After skiing, we will then go ice-skating and have some hot chocolate. After all this fun we will come home.

Frosty came alive. He did a flip in his special suit. He danced in joy with me. He got into a cold train, and he kept dancing. And, he and I went into a warm garden, and he melted. Then, he came back right away and then danced again at Christmas until the mean guy, Jack Frost, came and tried to eat him. He got away.

There was a baby snowman. He lived in Russia. He was alone on Christmas. He was sad. So, he walked to the street, and he found a bear. The bear was alone, too. They became friends. On Christmas, I get lots of presents. Sometimes I get clothes. I like to make cookies for Santa. I put the cookies on a plate and leave them on a table with some milk for Santa. In the morning, when I wake up, my Grandma and Grandpa shout out, “Merry Christmas!” Then, I open my presents, and I say, “Ohhh!” But, then we save some presents for our friends and family who come later, like my god sister, Naja.

At Hanukkah, we light the first of the eight candles on the first day. After dinner, we open our presents. Then, the next day we light another candle, and after dinner, we take a rest before we open our presents. We play some Hanukkah games and open some more presents. From that day on till the eighth day of the Hanukkah, we light one more candle each day and open some more presents. On the eighth day of Hanukkah we have a big party at my uncle’s house.

Once upon a time, there was a cat in our house. Santa came on Christmas Eve, and the cat said, “Could it be Santa?” When the cat actually saw Santa come out of the chimney, he said, “It is Santa!” The cat went upstairs and told the dog about Santa, then the dog started to chase the cat downstairs. The dog saw Santa, too! They were both very excited, and they ran around the whole house. Finally, they got presents from Santa because they had been good. They loved their presents.

We have Christmas lights up on our house, which are colored. We do not have a tree because my brother is too little. This year, we will be staying home. I am going to write to Santa and ask him for a racecar.

On the Christmas day, first we eat gingerbread waffles and milk for breakfast. Second, our family sings a Christmas song. Then, our family cooks together, and we eat together again. Last, we open our presents and we celebrate.

Santa comes to my house. I see him put the presents under my Christmas tree. I say, “Thank you!” Santa says, “You’re welcome!” Then, Santa goes out the door, and he says, “Ho, ho, ho. Merry Christmas.” In the morning, I open the presents with my Mom, my Dad, my brother, and my sister. I hope I get a Ben-10 game.

My mom’s birthday is on December 24^th. We go out to eat on her birthday. We make Christmas cookies for Santa. I wrote a letter to Santa and asked for Pokemon Legos. Our Christmas tree is still in the garage, and we found two ornaments.

We like as a family to decorate our house. We like to go outside and play. For Christmas dinner we like to eat pasta and Chinese food. On Christmas Eve, we put out milk and cookies for Santa, and carrots for the reindeer. I asked Santa for a doll, and I hope I get it.

Me and my friend were dancing and decorating the tree. We put up a big angel on top. We put up the little round things (ornaments.) I asked Holly what kind of presents she wants for Christmas. She said a baby kitty. I want a baby kitten, too. Then, Holly went home. Then, I went to bed. I love Christmas.

I like it when Santa puts presents under the tree. I want more toys – like two guns, one big and one small. And, I would like a jet with a remote control. My tree is up right in my house. It’s really tall. It has a star, and a nutcracker ornament that I chose. My sister chose a slipper ornament.

Frosty is a snowman, and the kids know how he came alive. It must have been some magic in that old top hat they found. He jumped around and played with us. He said, “Thanks for all my friends. I must now leave before I melt away.” Then he went away. The kids said, “Frosty, please come back.” When he was going away he heard a loud “STOP!” from the kids, and then he melted!

One day on the first day of December, Aadi and I wanted to play in the snow. I said, “How do we get to a snowy place?” Aadi said, “Follow me!”  Then, I followed him to a snowy place – Lake Tahoe. Lake Tahoe has thick ice all over it. Then, I showed him how to get to the Mount Everest by crossing the lake. (In this world, the Mount Everest is the smallest mountain so we can climb it.) Then, we climbed to the top, and we played with the snow and made a snowman.

When I went to my friend Justin’s house, he was one year older than me. It was winter and it was close to the day of Christmas. That day, I saw his favorite toy. It was a blue Lightning McQueen – the kind where if you pull the tail off it then the wings will pop out and you can shoot some things, like the other cars. I really liked that toy, even though I don’t like Lightning McQueen toys. I wanted one so much! Then it came true, because my brain told me that it would. I got one for Christmas.

 

 

How do you cook a Thanksgiving turkey?

Aadi
First, I’d go to a pumpkin patch and I’d hide somewhere behind a pumpkin. Then, when the turkey comes I’d have a trap and catch it. Then I take it home inside the trap. Then I cut it. I put it in the oven to make it hot, and I cook it until the morning.

Alex
First, I would buy a turkey from a store. Then I put it in a pot. Add some onion rings and some pepper and some french fries. Put it in the oven.
Cook it for two minutes. Then, take it out and eat it.

Amy
We don’t catch the turkey. We buy it. If I could catch a turkey, I would get a net and put it over the turkey. I would throw the net over it. Then, I would ask my mom and dad to help me put it on the back of the truck. Then, we would drive home and put it in the oven. I would put pepper and soy sauce on it, and cook it for 20 hours because it is a big turkey.

Ayaka
It was flying and I catched it when it landed on the tree. I climbed the tree. There was a chicken there and I picked it. I took it home and cooked it. I put it in a pan and put it in the oven. I put some pepper on top. I cooked it for one hour.

Carter
I would go out to a farm, go to the turkey pen and grab a turkey. Then, I would take it home, put it in a pan, and cook it. First, I took off the feathers. Then, I put it in the oven. I cook it for three minutes. Then it’s ready to eat. I cut it up and eat.

Cierra
First, get a turkey. I buy it at my favorite place, “All You Can Eat.” I warm up the turkey in a microwave. I get the plumper and squeeze all the juice out. I put frosting hearts on top. Then, I put some white outlines over it. I pat it down so it will stay. Then, I bake it.

Everardo
I bought the turkey at Taco Bell. I took it home. I cook it. I eat it.

Ethan L.
I would buy a turkey at Costco - a nine pound twenty six inch turkey. I put the turkey in a pan. I add salt. Then I put it in a bowl, and put it in the oven, and cook it for twenty six minutes.

Ethan M.
In the store buy a turkey with money. Put it on the grill. Turn on the heat. When it’s done burning get it out. Then eat it.

Eileen
I buy a turkey at Ranch Jo-Jo. Then I go home. I put the turkey in a pot. I cook it for three hours.

Hannah
My mom would get a turkey at a Chinese market. We bring a big pot and put it in with vegetables like potatos, tomatos, also some onions. We put some Chinese sauce on it and we put it in a crock-pot and cook it for 16 minutes. We eat it with the family – my grandma, my sister, my mom and dad.

Jeffrey
I catch a turkey with a net. I put it in the microwave and fry it all day and all night. Then, I cook it with french fries and cheese. I cook it for 12 minutes.

Kenny
We go to a store and get a turkey. Then, we go home and cook it. We put it in a pan with some salt and wait five minutes. Then, we put it in the oven at four degrees.

Kevin
Get a turkey at the store behind my sister’s school. Take it home. Put in the refrigerator. Cook it in the microwave.


Kyle
Get a turkey from the shop. It’s already dead. Pay for it first. Then, bring it home. Put some cucumbers on it and some tomatos and some broccoli and some carrots and some celery. Put it in the oven. It should be twenty miles hot. When it beeps it’s ready. Then, cut it up and eat it.

Nathan
The turkey came from a farm. A farm truck took turkey to my house. Put the turkey in a pot. Add some sugar. Put some salt on it. Then, put it in the oven. Cook the turkey for an hour. Then, take it out and eat it.

Sarai
I go to Red Lobster and get a turkey.  Bring it home. Get some flour. Pat some flour on the turkey. Put a cookie in the turkey. I put it in the oven. I cook it in one minute. Then it’s done. Then, I put on some ice cream and some vanilla cake. Yummy!

Sasha
Go to shop and get a turkey. Then, at home put it in the oven so it gets hot. Cook for two hours.

Tori
First, we buy it at the store. Then, we cook it in the oven. We defrost it first, and we wait while it is cooking. Then, we eat it. But, I don’t eat it because I don’t like turkey. And, that’s all I want to say!

Vasuda
You put the turkey in the pan and put it in the oven. Then you put sprinkles of hearts in the middle. Then, you put it in the oven again, and then you sprinkle some flower sprinkles, and then you put sauce on top of the heart sprinkles. Done!

Walfredo
Get a turkey from the food store. Take it home. Put bones inside the turkey. Put it in the oven. It’s really hot. Cook for one minute.

These Halloween stories were dictated to an adult scribe during our writer’s workshop. I hope you enjoy them.

On Halloween, me and Jeffrey went trick-or-treating. We went to every house in the world and got all the candy on Earth. We magically appeared in every country. We went to all the houses that celebrate Halloween. We ate all the candy. But, we didn’t get sick because we are magic.

One night in the city, Joker jumped up on a tall skyscraper. Then Batman saw him. Batman jumped up, too. When Batman tried to catch the Joker, the Joker said, “Don’t attack me! I’m not bad anymore!” “Ok. Let’s go trick-or-treating,” Batman said. So, Batman and the Joker went trick-or-treating, and they are friends now.

It was Halloween and at the spooky castle there were ghosts everywhere. All the people in town were scared of the spooky castle, and they didn’t want to go trick-or-treating there. But, the tiger wasn’t scared. He was brave. He went into the castle and scared all the ghosts away. So, he was a helpful and friendly tiger. He was also a magic tiger. He turned the spooky castle into the candy castle. Now, all the boys and girls in town love to go trick-or-treating at the candy castle. Happy Halloween!

I like Halloween because I like to dress up and go trick-or-treating. I like to eat the candy, too! I will dress up as a Sleeping Beauty this year and we will go trick-or-treating in Stanford shopping mall.

One night I went Halloween trick-or-treating. I was dressed up as a Black Spiderman. My Daddy was with me. I heard something in the bushes. I went into the bushes to find it. It was a cat. I petted the cat. Daddy petted it, too. It was our cat! He followed us home.

A bad ghost lived in a cave with bad monsters. It was a bad, scary family. On Halloween they go around and scare people and steal candy. They go up to Aadi and grab his bag of candy. “You ugly monsters. You are mean. I’m going to call the police, “ Aadi yelled. Aadi’s baby brother called the police. But, the monsters disappeared before the police came. The end.

I will go ice-skating on Halloween this year. I will dress up as a pink fairy. I will also trick-or-treat in my house and eat a little bit of candy.

I don’t like candy, but I like going trick-or-treating. I don’t know what I will dress up as, but I’m thinking possibly a Pokemon. On Halloween, I’m going trick-or-treating with my sister and her friends. I like Halloween!

On Halloween night there was a Wolverine. He went to the bad guy’s house. He jumped in the window and caught the bad guy. He took him to jail.

I like candies that are Halloween candies – like ghost lollipops. I like to dress in a black Spiderman suit. I like to trick-or-treat with my dad. I knock on doors. I say, “Trick-or-treat.” Then, they give me some candies. I get 100 candies.


Hannah

I like Halloween. My mom bought a lot of candy. I am going to dress up as Ariel this year again. We will trick-or-treat in our neighborhood, and my dad will drive us a little bit further for trick-or-treating, too.


Jeffrey

One Halloween a sick pumpkin went to the doctor. He said, “My butt hurts.” The doctor said, “What happened?” The pumpkin said, “Someone put a cannon in me and blew me up. Can you fix me?” “No,” said the doctor. So, the pumpkin went home and sat on the grass. But, his butt still hurt.


Kenny

There were three pumpkins in the garden. A monster came and ate the pumpkins. He got so full. Then, he sang the ABC spider song. Then, he turned into a giant spider robot, and ran down the street scaring boys and girls. He tried to go trick-or-treating. But, nobody gave him candy. So, he went to the store and bought some.


Kevin

This Halloween, I will dress up as a brown dog. My mom is going to cook pancakes for me. I will go trick-or-treating with my brother in my neighborhood. I will only eat a little bit of candy, probably my favorite kind, chocolate!


Kyle

I dressed up as a vampire on Halloween. I was walking down the street trick-or-treating, but everybody closed the door. All the other kids screamed and ran. They were scared of me. Everybody thought I was a real vampire. I went up to one person who wasn’t scared of me. It was a kid. He was dressed up as an evil wolf. We went trick-or-treating together. This time the people gave us candy. They didn’t close the door.


Nathan

Me and Kaylee and Mommy went trick-or-treating. I was dressed as Batman and Kaylee was dressed as Cinderella. Mommy was dressed as a clown. We were trick-or-treating by Grandma and Grandpa’s house. We rang a doorbell, and something weird happened. A person dressed up as a giant candy opened the door. We said, “Trick-or-treat.” The giant candy said, “Sorry no candy. I’m going to race away in my car.” Then, he flew away on his magic can.

Sarai

Once upon a time, there was a haunted house with ghosts in it. A monster, Frankenstein, bats, witches, and even real pumpkins lived in it. Then the children walked inside the haunted house, and they felt really scared. Then they saw witches flying above the roof, and they screamed, “Ahh!” But, they ran out of the haunted house, and the monster followed them to eat them. The kids got eaten and they are ghosts forever.


Sasha

I like to go trick-or-treating. I like chocolates and lollipops.
Halloween is fun!


Tori

I made all different color spider candies for Halloween We always decorate our house with blue kitty lights. When it is dark we turn it on and it glows blue. I put up some scary lanterns in our rose garden. This year I’m going to wear my Tinkerbell costume.


Vasuda

It was Halloween morning. All the monsters and ghosts were getting ready for the big night. The ghosts were practicing scaring people, and the monsters were pretending to be the regular people. Later, when the sun was coming down, I was outside and I saw the monsters coming down the street. (I am a grown-up in this story.) I ran into my house. I hid under my bed. The monsters tried to come inside, but I had locked the door. So, the monsters went to my mom’s house. They broke in and stole her jewelry. My mom ran away to my dad’s work. The End.


Walfredo

I like to go trick-or-treating with my sisters. I dress up as Spiderman. I like to go to houses and get candy. I go to the door and knock. They open the door. I say, “Happy Halloween.” Then they give me and my sisters candy. My favorite candy is a lollipop. I like orange.
